The trailer for Jurassic World has only been out for a few weeks, and you can already see just how popular this film is going to be.
It will be the fourth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise, the first one having been released in 1993 (Jurassic Park), where a new themed island is overrun by the dinosaurs themselves. Four years later The Lost World: Jurassic Park was released, and stays true to the storyline of the first film. In this sequel, a second island is found to be inhabited with dinosaurs and a team must go in and preserve the island so that the beasts can roam free without human intervention. The third film, again released four years later in 2001, was named simply Jurassic Park III and follows the story of a family trying to save their son who is trapped on Isla Sorna (from the second film).
So 14 years on the 4th film was announced. This long-awaited movie was originally planned to be released in 2005. After many poor scripts and other obstacles which had to be overcome, it is now finally heading to the big screen. With all 3 films so far being a massive success, the questions to be asked are: will this film top all the others? Has it been too long since the previous installments?
On my first viewing of the trailer I thought ‘wow!’ I had recently watched the 3 films and was really hoping for another, but I never thought there would be a 4th. Fans all over the world were gobsmacked to hear the news – some couldn’t believe that it was actually happening! The trailer shows the main plot of the film: the original park from the first film is rebuilt and reopened, laden with new tech and better attractions. However, the island owner wants to step the park up a notch. To do this he and his team genetically modify a brand new dinosaur; bigger, faster and more intelligent than any ever before. Like any film where something new and dangerous is created, everything goes catastrophically wrong. Yes, you guessed it! The new dinosaur escapes and creates havoc all over the park, killing every moving thing in its sight. Jurassic World well and truly hits the mark!
In terms of the film itself, the graphics look spectacular and, as an added bonus, it will be released in 3D. Also, the whole feel of the trailer makes me excited, from the music to the fast paced editing, it all screams ‘GREAT FILM!’
To answer my second question: No I do not think that it has been too long. Fans all over the world will have lost hope many years ago. Now this has been announced, an old love will have been re-kindled in their hearts, and children of the first 3 can be children once again.
I named this article ‘First Thoughts’. This is because it really is just the beginning of this story. Many films have looked great in early stages of their release and epically failed when put on the big screen, and this could be one of those movies. However, I just can’t see such a brilliant franchise being ruined by this long awaited film.
If you haven’t already seen the trailer, I reccomend that you do. You can find it here:
I will post a full review after the film’s release.
